I have been through a few baby monitors and did my research with each one. Forefront in my mind when looking at baby monitors is interference and safety, both of which are not an issue with the WeMo Baby Monitor by Belkin. A con worth mentioning though…it only works with Apple products.
I was provided an iPhone 4S along with the WeMo Baby to run my review. Let’s go over the setup first. The way it works is the WeMo Baby creates it’s own Wi-Fi hotspot and requires your iPhone to find it and connect. Then, once you open the WeMo app, it configures it to go back on your own Wi-Fi network. The initial setup for me was a little tricky and temperamental. I saw the WeMo’s hotspot, connected to it and then something just stopped working. When I restarted, the hotspot was nowhere to be found. Until it was. Very odd! I had no issues whatsoever when I updated the iPhone to iOS 7 and did the setup again.

After this, you can personalize with your child’s (or children’s) name and listen in. That’s it! It’s a very simple gadget but what makes it great are the things that people might take for granted if they never had to deal with an analog baby monitor.
Interference: Analog baby monitors can be noisy. They pick up all sorts noise from other gadgets using the same channels and can make hearing your baby really difficult. The other problem with analog baby monitors? Safety: Someone can be on the same frequency and hear everything. Or vice versa. It’s not a desirable position to be in.
The WeMo Baby is a digital monitor with no interference that I could tell, with the added security of an encrypted signal so no one can accidentally (or maybe purposefully?) eavesdrop on your family. And I don’t know about you, but I like the idea of using my phone instead of a handset and having yet another thing to carry. I didn’t get to try out the simultaneous multiple mobile devices feature, but that sounds fantastic.
One negative of many digital monitors? The price. But imagine my surprise when I checked out Belkin’s site before starting this post and seeing the WeMo Baby’s price slashed from $89.99 to $47.99! That’s a fantastic deal! If only they could include Android in the mix, I would buy one right now.
How about you? Are you tempted by the WeMo Baby? Do you own one? I’d love to know in the comments below!

We were provided a WeMo Baby along with an iPhone 4S to try out and return to facilitate this review. The WeMo Baby and iPhone 4S were provided by Verizon Wireless, home of Verizon’s 4G LTE network. No compensation was received. All opinions are 100% my own.
