Disclosure: We were provided the Touchless Toilet Flush Kit from Kohler to facilitate this review. All opinions are 100% my own.
One day, our entire house might be automated and smarter than we are. We are excited to inch toward that goal with each new smart product that comes on the market. First, there was the Nest and then the Kwikset Kevo. Now we’ve been given the opportunity to review the Touchless Toilet Flush Kit from Kohler.
With all of our renovations, I’ve been waiting and waiting and waiting for our powder room to be updated and a new toilet put in before installing the kit, but I couldn’t wait any longer. So we’ve installed it on the current toilet and we absolutely love it.
Installation
I know for a fact I could have installed this myself but right at the beginning, I couldn’t loosen the nut on the existing handle. I asked my husband to take it off for me and 10 minutes later, he came out to let me know it was installed. So, of course, I don’t have pictures of the actual installation or the experience to write about it. But if it took him 10 minutes, you can guess how easy it was.
I really don’t want to show you the inside of the toilet, but I will because it’s for informational purposes. Just keep in mind that it’s a 17 year old toilet with many previous owners! 😉

Yuck! For informational purposes only.
Kohler has this great installation video for the flapper valve toilet that we have:
Before you even buy the kit, you can see if your toilet is compatible here.
The Kit
Basically, you’re given a new chain and a device to connect it to that when it senses your hand waving above it, turns a crank that pulls the chain to flush the toilet. Batteries are included in the kit as well as a sticker to put on the lid so you and guests know where the sensor is.

Flush the toilet with a wave of your hand!
Bottom Line
The kit is easy to install and functions perfectly. My 5 year old had absolutely no problems adjusting to the new way to flush the toilet. Obviously, we had to also keep him from flushing constantly at first since it’s so fun.
There are reviews that state the device starts flushing randomly a few months down the line, so I will update this post if that happens and our attempts to fix the issue (cause we will!). For the current price of $44.95 on Amazon, the KOHLER Touchless Toilet Flush Kit is well worth it! Totally geek-out worthy.
We were also sent the Reveal Nightlight seat from Kohler and with having 2 boys, I know this will end up being a fantastic addition to their bathroom once we get that updated as well. For now, we’ll be installing it next in our powder room. Review to come!
