Do you know when something comes along that you didn’t fully realize you needed then becomes an absolute necessity? The iBolt sPro2 was definitely one of those items for me. The sPro2 is a windshield/dashboard universal mount kit for your smartphone. Here is my iBolt sPro2 Connect Kit Review.
Why did I need a mount for my phone? I mean, I have a navigation system in my car already…but I never use it. I found out rather quickly that my navigation system is just not easy to use and on top of that, it’s not up to date. Where as my smartphone is equipped with the always updated Maps app from Google and I can easily find where I need to go. So I use my phone for navigation all of the time.
But holding your phone or trying out those sticky pads that only work well for a week even though they’re “washable”, all of that just really doesn’t work. I usually had the fleeting thought of a mount but I didn’t look into it further. And then iBolt offered the sPro2 for me to review and I fell in love.
The “arm” of the mount stretches to a maximum 5.9″ and pulls back in after you insert your phone to hold it nice and snug in place. The rubber teeth on the mount help with the stabilization so while I use it in my preferred horizontal orientation, I’m not worried about my phone slipping out. What’s extra nice though is that I have the option to switch to a verticl orientation if I want to. In fact, the mount rotates a full 360 degrees.
The brilliant design of this mount gives you access to many of the phones ports, so charging is still easy. We’d love to see if charging could somehow be part of the mount, preferably wireless charging. But as it is, the sPro2 meets all of our needs and is now a permanent component in our car.
If that wasn’t enough, there’s a clever bonus included with this mounting kit. An NFC tag (compatible with Android phones) will launch the “Dock’n Drive” app from iBolt whenever your phone is close to the tag. NFC (near field communication) needs to be turned on in your phone’s settings and both the “Dock’n Drive” and “Dock Mode” apps needs to be installed for the tag to work.
I really loved the large icons in the “Dock’n Drive” app but my favorite part was the speedometer and compass on the right side, I definitely found that a fun addition.
At just $24.99, this mount is an amazing value. Like I said, I always use it!
