I haven’t always believed in backing up my computer. Let me rephrase that; I haven’t always been smart enough to back up my computer. I’ve told the story of losing my 5th year Thesis research right before graduation. And the 4 years of college pictures to go along with it. OUCH.
I thought I had learned my lesson in the years following that and started using an external hard drive. Until that crashed and I narrowly escaped losing all that data too.
I now highly recommend cloud storage for backing up any and all computers (and mobile devices!) and was given the opportunity to review a plan from CrashPlan. Set up couldn’t have been easier. I downloaded the software after setting up an account and installed it on my Windows 7 laptop. Once installation was complete, I signed in and with one click, CrashPlan started the backup. All files are stored on the cloud which they call “CrashPlan Central” (cute!). You can restore individual files or a whole drive and pick and choose what to back up. Depending on your subscription (starting at $2.99/month), you can back up up to 10 GB or have Unlimited storage.
One thing I REALLY love about CrashPlan is their free option. Yes, I said FREE. It’s not cloud storage (which again, I highly recommend) but you can back up to a friend’s computer, another home computer, use this option in an office setting, or even your own external hard drive. Why might this interest you? It’s AUTOMATIC back up. Yes, you can back up manually yourself but access to free automatic back up is way up there on my wishlist. If you use the friend or workplace route, apparently the files are not viewable by the computer owner. Yay for privacy!
There’s also a free app for viewing your files on the go. Available for Android, iOS, and Windows phones, this app is a must have in today’s world.
If it’s even possible you aren’t impressed yet, check out their long list of high profile clients: Google, Adobe, HP, Mozilla Firefox, Shutterfly, Netflix…to name a few. Seriously, if you don’t have a back up plan in place now, you should consider CrashPlan!
One of my lucky readers will receive a WHOLE YEAR subscription to CrashPlan+ by entering the giveaway below. Do it and be amazed by the peace of mind you gain.

Wooow, i need this! 😀
CrashPlan is excellent – unlimited and cross=platform. I have used two other on;ine backup services and it is far better than either of them.
Yeah, Crashplan is the best backup service, hands down. Cross-platform, easy to use and does not require a subscription (provided you have the possibility/space to store your backups somewhere)
Great contest
Love Crashplan, would love to win this, thanks for the opportunity!
Would love to try Crashplan!
I love CrashPlan!
Love crashplan, just their restore view could be a bit more handy
looks good!
I love the free version and want to try the cloud.
Sounds great. I’m going to try it.
Great review. I didn’t know Google and Netflix used CrashPlan! That’s a vote of confidence I can get behind.
This is just amazing!
