Lucky for many new android owners, (last time I checked) Sprint has been downloading the Advanced Task Killer app for customers before they leave the store with their new phone. But if you don’t have this app, you should.
One problem with the Android OS lies with the inability to know whether a program has been closed or not. If the program, often more than one, is running in the background it could lead to faster power drain on your battery and sluggish performance for your cell. This is easily fixable with Advance Task Killer (ATK), but you need to know about this app (and the problem) first.
Advanced Task Killer allows you to choose which programs to kill when not in use and which to bypass. Personally, I put the following apps on the “Ignore” list:
- Google Voice
- Lookout (my overall security app, including virus protection)
- Messages
- Gmail
- Calendar
- Digi Clock Widget
- News and Weather
You can manually stop apps and set an interval for “Auto Kill”. Mine is set for whenever I shut off the screen. ATK helped a ton with my HTC Hero and I now consider it a no-brainer for any Android phone.
This is kinda stuff I was looking for. You’re one of 37 of my favorite internet places now :P.
